Visceglia for cinema: Il sol dell'avvenire nominated for the David di Donatello '24

This Friday the 69th edition of the David di Donatello will be held, the film award assigned by the Academy of Italian Cinema to various cinema categories.

The award, which owes its name and features to the sculpture of the same name, was born in the 1950s, during a flourishing season of Italian cinema: in 1953, in fact, the Open Gate Club was founded, an exclusive Roman club having as a symbol an opening door, which indicated the end of the war and the birth of a new international culture.

Within the club, the Committee for Art and Culture and the International Cinema Club, later the International Cinema Club, were born, who created the David, along the lines of the Oscars awarded by the US Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

In 1956, the first awards ceremony took place at the Fiamma cinema in Rome. The following year, the prize was moved to the Greco-Roman theater of Taormina, with some exceptions. Finally, in 1982, the ceremony moved definitively to Rome.

This year there will be many deserving films that will compete for the 25 prizes in contention; among the shortlisted candidates is Il Sol dell'Avvenire, a film directed and starring Nanni Moretti, released in April 2023.

The film tells of Giovanni, a disenchanted director, in crisis with his wife, who is shooting a film set in 1956, featuring a secretary of the Quarticciolo PCI section, who has to deal with the invasion of Hungary by the Soviets. At the same time, the director is writing a film based on John Cheever's The Swimmer and imagines shooting a film that tells the forty-year story of a couple, punctuated by the repertoire of Italian music. Visceglia participated in the film, helping the production design department with a map of Rome in the 1950s, coming from his historical archive.

Always close to the world of art and entertainment, Cartografica Visceglia offers within its catalog a production of geographical maps for film sets: "tailor-made" cartographic supports, created with graphics, colours, details, materials and other characteristics request.

Cartografica is able to provide the geographical map suited to the different stage needs, with punctuality and competence, helping productions to also find the right location.
